What Our Pets Can Teach Us

Bob 2000 to 2013
Saturday our pet cat (Bob) passed away. He had been ill for a few days, and the vet gave him some meds. I spent some time with him, nursing him along, and he seemed to be improving until Saturday evening when he un-expectantly died.

He was a great companion, and at a time like this, sometimes we do a lot of reflecting, and reviewing our memories. What amazed me was the impact the little guy had on us. Whenever he was around us, he just couldn’t give us enough attention and love. When I was busy working on something, or building something, it really wasn’t the right time for him to express his affection. Nevertheless, he didn’t care what we thought, or said, we just couldn’t offend him.

It was as I was pondering this, that it occurred to me just how unconditional his affection was. He at no time seemed to take into account all the conditions of our lives, before he felt we would be worthy of his attention. He was never offended by what we were doing, saying or anything of that sort. His affection was unconditional, and even if we pushed him away, because we were busy, he immediately returned with more affection, and he seemed to never accept our in-attention as rejection.

Up to this time, I had been teaching on God’s unconditional love for the prior three weeks, exploring the depths of how much God loves us; unconditionally and without obligation; so you can see where some connections were made upon my mind, as I pondered the memories of Bob in my life. Sadly, it seems sometimes our appreciation is greater when we lose something. Bob lived a good full life, much appreciated, and yet unknown to him, taught us a lot.

His affection seemed un-conditional; we could not do anything to cause him to reject us. He was a typical cat, so sometimes he could get a little snooty, but that aside, he always came running to us when he saw or heard us outside. He postponed many a hunting trips just to sit beside us, and rub against us, and he would always sneak a few licks to my hand. (Wasn’t sure if he licked my hand for the salt, or because he liked me.) What did I learn?

A couple of things occurred to me as I was reflecting. First, our view of God’s love generally is so twisted that it takes a simple creation of God, sent into our lives, to help us understand how much God really loves us! You cannot offend God’s love for you, there is absolutely nothing that you could ever do, to get God angry with you, because Jesus paid the price and was a satisfying sacrifice for us. So why all the confusion about God’s love? Simply, because the far majority has never experienced un-conditional love, only conditional love. In most Christians world, if you do good, your deserving of love and recognition, however, if you do bad, you must be punished. That’s not Gods love, and even Bob a little cat, didn’t base his affection on our behavior.

Religion is very confusing, God’s love and grace always brings clarity. Everything must be filtered through the finished work of the cross, God’s complete redemption! Which has been revealed; the undiluted pure love of God, a love that is never offended, and pursues us; once we are captivated by His love, His love alone (no help from the law) leads us to the flawless place of perpetual rest. Religion likes to give a dose of grace (God’s favor) with an appropriate (in their minds) amount of the law, (list of do’s and don’ts). This is called mixture, and you can’t put new wine in old wine skins; it will burst, and you lose it all. God’s love is so rich, pure and captivating that it alone will lead us to His rest, requiring no help from an obsolete law. Wherever the law is added, subsequently you must perform in order to achieve acceptance, and qualify for His love and blessings. That performance is called self-righteousness, and as long as you operate this way, you are allowing the ministry of death and condemnation into your life; and they won’t disappoint. They will produce first condemnation, afterwards death. Just think if our pets required performance from us in order to achieve their affection. We would not have pets if that were the case. We have pets because no matter what we do, they remain faithful.

The great news is God’s love remains faithful, never condemning, always accepting, and because of the cross, we are qualified. As He is so are we in this world! Is Jesus qualified? So are you. Is Jesus loved and accepted by the Father? So are you! Jesus took your bad so that you could always have His good! If God can use an ass, (Num 22:28) then He certainly can use our precious pets, to show us His goodness.

The second point brought to my attention: When we lose anything precious in our lives, we experience regret, and condemn ourselves. It has been many years since this has happened that I had forgotten this point. I was amazed at my own thoughts of regret and condemnation toward myself, thinking “if I would have done this,” or “if I did that different, he would still be alive.” If you have read or heard any of the messages, I’ve taught on condemnation, you know that condemnation kills. Romans 8:1 there is NO condemnation for us in Christ. You can always find a reason to condemn yourself, but don’t do it. Jesus was condemned so that you would never again be condemned. What happened, happened so I refuse to live in regret, or condemn myself for any reason. Whether it is a person, or as in this case, a pet, regret and condemnation will put you back into the performance mode, blaming yourself for not “doing” enough, then before you know it, your back into the law. This is a trap, don’t get pulled into it! Focus on God’s great love for you, and rest in His grace.
Bob Tree

Bob will be greatly missed, and I’m thankful we had him in our lives; he was a joy, and unbeknownst to him, a pretty good teacher too. God’s love is so amazing. He knows when a sparrow falls upon the ground, He loves what I love, because He is one with me, God sees our animals as special and significant, so how could this love not have a special reunion planned for us and our pets. Father, thank you for your love and acceptance, and reveal to us your length, breadth, width, and depth of your love, and we will be filled with ALL the fullness of God! God bless everyone, and your special pets also!

Love Defined, With You In Mind!

Love’s plan was to set you free to be loved and to love, to experience the very nature and likeness of God Himself! When we understand this love, God’s grace makes sense because grace is all about giving us what we did not earn or merit. Love gives expecting nothing in return; love gives without obligation of reciprocation. However once you experience this love, you become captivated by such a powerful, unconditional love!

Oh how God loves you and wants His best for you. Believe what He says and thinks about you today, and soar to new heights!

He does not see you as a failure, He sees you as a success.

He did not see you as without value, but he saw you as “to die for”, which makes you priceless!

He doesn’t see you as broke, but He sees you loaded with all of His blessings, fully supplied in abundance to meet every need and yes even your desires.

He doesn’t see you as sick and broken down, but as vibrant and full of life, His life!

He doesn’t see you as a nobody, He sees you as somebody very special to Him with unlimited potential!

He was so excited about you that He threw a party when you invited Him to live in you!

For you see YOU are the object of His love, a love that has no conditions, a love that is so intense that He gave His very best just to be with you, a love that would stop at nothing to restore your innocence, make you righteous, never ever hold your sin or shortcomings against you! A love that completely destroyed and disarmed your enemy. Why did He do all this? For you, because He LOVES YOU!

He loves everything about you, your personality, your hair, your smile, your sense of humor, He goes to work with you, He has given you His grace, you are highly favored and have been greatly advantaged because of Him! Because of His love for you, you have an unfair advantage over the world, in all that you do!

The beauty of His love is that you don’t have to earn it, you don’t have to deserve it, you are always loved by Him, you are always highly favored by Him not because of anything you have done, but because of what He has done! You are completely innocent and you are His!

You know Him as Abba, Papa, your exceedingly loving Father! His love is without obligation, and is unconditional! You are His beloved, He will never let go of you nor loosen His grip on you! All He wants you to do is believe, so believe that Jesus paid the price to give this to you.

Knowing you are righteous and therefore, innocent, and holy, which is an unconditional gift to us as a result of God so loving the world; resulting in the finished work of the cross, is probably the most misunderstood, and under-taught. All because of His unconditional, no obligation love for us! Love, God’s love (agape) is the most powerful, force ever given to man. Nevertheless, the most perverted by religion, and misunderstood by Christians, and in turn many times incorrectly conveyed to the world. People want to be accepted the way they are, and when they find out that God has removed the obstacle of sin through Christ and by His grace set them free, they will come running to Him! The consequence of knowing and believing His love for us is true freedom! Everything we enjoy in this complete redemption, is in loves embrace! From our righteousness, to His super abundant grace, resulting in our reigning in life, is a result of His intense love for us. Even His rest, cannot be experienced without loves confirmation that you are innocent, completely and perpetually forgiven, and our debt forever paid, nothing stands between us and God! All sin has been paid through Jesus. Now you can rest because of knowing and believing His love for YOU!

Interesting thing about the love of God, it is God, for God IS love, and yet so many Christians feel that it is just basic, and that they already know this subject, let’s get into the deep stuff” they say. I can tell you that most people have never experienced this love; and were not correctly taught this love. Therefore, we could spend the rest of our lives teaching His love, (who He is). And what would we gain? We would be filled to the FULLNESS of God! When we grow in His love, we then experience His love; once we experience it, others then begin to experience it through us. So embrace the teaching of His love. When you discover Him (God IS love) then you will discover yourself! Anytime your told by someone “I know all about this ‘love’ or ‘grace’ stuff” just extend them grace, because they haven’t caught the revelation of His great love and that this is the gospel. It is our very foundation, because it is WHO God is, for God is love!! Receive His abundance of grace, and gift of righteousness, (brought to you by His love) and reign in life!!

God’s Love For Me; Does He Really Love ME That Much? Pt 2

GWM Video icon Listen Download
Love’s plan was to set you free to be loved and to love, to experience the very nature and likeness of God Himself! When we understand this love, God’s grace (unmerited favor; loves influence on the heart of man) makes sense because grace is all about giving us what we did not earn or merit. Love gives expecting nothing in return; love gives without obligation of reciprocation. Yet once you experience this love, you become captivated by such a powerful, truly unconditional love!

Religion Attempts to Dis-grace The Gospel! Religion utterly “dis-graces” love, and tears it down to a level (the lowest level known to man, a prostituted form of love) not even recognized as love, known as; you must follow the rules (commandments) to get the blessing, do good get good, do bad get bad. The meaning of “religion” is; a return to bondage.

Gal 5:1  Christ defines your faith; He is your freedom from anything the law could never free you from! Find your firm footing in this freedom. Do not let religion trip you up again and harness you to a system of rules and obligations.

Heb 12:1    “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin (unbelief) which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”

In other words Gal 5:1 and Heb 12:1 remind us not to return to bondage (religion). Religion, through the law, tries to bring back to bondage what grace has set us free from!! Don’t let your peace be unsettled, causing you to question God’s love. Jesus demonstrated His love for us on the cross. In this message, discover God’s unfailing love for you! You are the object of His love!

God’s Love For You; Is It Really That Good?

GWM Video icon Listen Download
When God’s love is described, we see a very radical unconditional love, a love, when seen through the finished work of the cross, passes knowledge. It can even cause people to question, asking themselves, “is He really that good?” To that I say “yes” and even better than that. He demonstrated His love for us on the cross, while we were still sinners. God is love, discover, and experience His love and goodness, and be filled with the fullness of God. His love is without doubt the most powerful force known to man! His love radically shapes the believer, and aggressively pursues the sinner. In this message begin a journey with me as we explore God’s intense focused love for YOU!
